Know Moringa

INTRODUCTION TO MORINGA

Moringa Oleifera is the most nutrient-dense plant on the planet and naturally contains a potent fusion of anti-inflammatory compounds, anti-oxidants, vitamins, amino acids and minerals.   That’s why health and fitness experts in the U.S. and Europe are touting Moringa Oleifera as a legitimate “superfood”* and some even refer to it as “The Miracle Tree.”

Moringa deliver nutrients without unhealthy fats or high-calorie carbohydrates, according to researchers from John Hopkins University.  In a gram to gram comparison, raw Moringa leaves deliver on average:

7 times the vitamin C in oranges

4 times the calcium in milk and twice the protein

4 times the vitamin A in carrots

3 times the iron present in almonds

3 times the potassium in bananas

Dried leaf powder delivers even more than this…

Recommended dosage: 3x capsules per day or as directed. No minimum daily intake has been determined for the tea.

There is a huge variety of ways to consume the Moringa but the most successful and tasty way is to include just one teaspoon of Moringa powder into a smoothie, yoghurt or enjoy over salads. It is not recommended that Moringa is cooked as temperatures over 47˚C destroy many phyto-nutrients including vitamins although most minerals survive. Of course the meals onto or into which the Moringa is added needs to conform to the eating plan you have been designed but everybody can benefit from it…vegans, lactose intolerant, glucose intolerant, insulin resistant and persons with nut allergies to name a few. Because our Moringa products are GMO-free, nothing is added and nothing removed. All you are doing is using what mother nature gives in the best possible form and making it work for you.

Amino Acids

The Amino acid composition in Moringa is of significant mention.  As you know, Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and muscle tissue. They also play a major role in physiological processes relating to our energy, recovery, muscle and strength gain, and aid in weight loss. There are 20 amino acids naturally found in moringa oleifera of which 11 are known to be ESSENTIAL and they have to be supplied by the diet since the human body cannot synthesize them. Few foods are known to contain all 11 essential amino acids. Moringa does. The 11 essential amino acids are: tyrosine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, cysteine and valine. Moringa’s essential amino acids presence and digestibility scores are more than adequate when measured against the standards of World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and United Nations Organization (UNO). Moringa Oleifera averages:

Further to the above 11 Essential amino acids, our moringa contains a further 9 namely:

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid

Serine

HO-Proline

Arginine

Aspartic Acid

Glutamic Acid

Glycine

Alanine

Anti-inflammatory and Anti-oxidant

Strenuous exercise can lead to breakdown of muscle tissue for use as an energy source, in a process known as gluconeogenesis. If not checked, this can lead to muscle shrinkage and injury. Free radicals can also stimulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which further inhibit the activity of growth hormones. One way to counteract this is by consuming a product such as Moringa, which contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory bio-nutrients. Moringa will help protect the body after a workout and reduce inflammation to promote healing. This means you can get back to what you love doing, quicker.

As you can see, there is no other plant on earth as nutrient-dense as moringa…

Side effects of taking too much Moringa to start with…

Try the recommended daily dose of the particular product and see how YOUR body reacts to it.  If you must, take less and build up to the recommended daily dose.  Each person’s system reacts differently and our recommended daily doses are according to the RDR as per the WHO.

Nausea

If Moringa makes you nauseous you are taking too much… lower your intake and build up slower, or spread your intake over three meals. Three days will do it to see if your adjusted intake is working for you.

Laxative

Moringa is very potent. The average person can take 2-3 teaspoons on an empty stomach with water to use it as a fast acting and natural laxative. Remember people differ so will the impact of how much you take.  Many use Moringa and an increased water intake to keep them regular – this does not require taking it on an empty stomach. If you get a runny tummy from Moringa, just reduce your dosage, or take it when your stomach has food in it.

Diarrhoea and Runny Stomach

NOTE that a high dose of Moringa is a laxative, especially on an empty stomach. This can also be due to the first week’s detox.  See it through, rehydrate and if the runny tummy remains, please reduce the dose as the client’s tummy may be too sensitive for some reason for the dose.  Maintain a higher dose for 3 weeks and then attempt a slight increase again.

Heartburn:

If you take Moringa neat with water, or very little else to mix with, it can cause a heartburn-like sensation. If this happens to you, mix it with something thicker, or take it with food.

Moringa and Pregnancy

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: It’s UNSAFE to use the root, bark or flowers of Moringa if you are pregnant. Chemicals in the root, bark, and flowers can make the uterus contract, and this might cause a miscarriage. There is not enough information available about the safety of using other parts of Moringa during pregnancy. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.   Moringa is beneficial in lactating mothers though from 2-3 days after birth.    Moringa powder is sometimes used to increase breast milk production. Some research suggests it can do this due to its vitamin content; however, consult with your physician before using it.
